After 18 years in the Oil and Gas industry, Aimee felt called to become a Licensed Professional Counselor when she and Jeramiah were foster parents. So, she returned to school and earned a Master of Science degree in Professional Counseling from Mid-America Christian University.
Aimee is licensed to work with clients of any age and provides individual, family, and group counseling. Her theoretical approach to therapy is a blend of cognitive, behavioral, and psychoanalytical theories, which can include mindfulness, skills training, role-playing, developing coping skills, EMDR, and, if the client chooses, incorporating prayer, Bible verse memorization, and meditation.
When Aimee is not at the office, she enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with her family and dogs.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) focuses on the individual's present concerns. The EMDR approach believes past emotionally-charged experiences overly influence your current emotions, sensations, and thoughts about yourself. EMDR helps you break through the emotional blocks that keep you from living an adaptive, emotionally healthy life.
We alternate between regular sleep and REM (rapid eye movement) during sleep. This sleep pattern helps you process things that are troubling you. EMDR replicates this sleep pattern by alternating between sets of eye movements and brief reports about what you notice. This alternating process helps you update your memories to a healthier present.
EMDR is an option for helping those with PTSD because it is unnecessary to verbalize all the details of the traumatic experience. Don't hesitate to contact our office if you are interested in learning more about EMDR.
Therapy can help us create healthy habits, heal hurts, change our thoughts, or process situations. Many physical symptoms can be tied to emotional experiences and concerns. Stress, anxiety, patterns of unhealthy relationships, and addiction can all be addressed during therapy. Contact our office today at 405-387-3838.
